This is a simple guide which aligns speedometer markings with gears 2nd at 20mph, 3rd at 30mph etc. using an auditory cue, a sputtering, engine sound below the ideal speed usually indicates a lower gear is needed, transitioning to a stronger vibration and acceleration in the correct gear. I find this helpful especially in slower speeds, and personally shifts into 5th gear above 60 mph for better performance on the 883, noting that engine lugging is a distinct and damagiing sensation to avoid...

I need to take a closer look but that's an interesting visual! It helps to pay attention to the sputtering sound, stronger pull etc.. it's like you're becoming one with your ride, do you know what I mean!

How do you usually handle shifts when you're cruising at higher speeds, like on the highway? Do you stick with your 5th gear setup over 60?
