I really can't stand chrome, so I'm totally committed to getting rid of it on my scooter. Do you have any advice on painting or other mods?

well, you've got a few options. you can paint over it, replace chrome parts, or use a chrome removal chemical

You can sand, prime, and paint the chrome with a high-quality spray paint designed for metal surfaces and for a matte or blacked-out look, I think you should consider using a powder coating service too
